"Portrait 4, the Math Resources Inc. graphing program, works better than a graphing calculator with our students using Pocket PCs.
Students in four schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville have Portrait 4 on their handhelds with the ability to switch from Word or Excel to Portrait 4 and back, while in class. There is no fumbling for another tool like a graphing calculator or trying to transfer information by hand. Students are able to use the color graphing features of Portrait 4 to compare and contrast various functions. They are able to import Excel spreadsheet data and graph the data immediately, with no conversions or manual input, taking time away from the essential thrust of the assignment. Students produce histograms in various subjects to represent data.
Our schools currently have 500 licenses of Portrait 4. I would like to see that number double in the next two years."
